#004 – Interest in the Hole

Transcript:

Have you noticed it’s a lot more difficult to get humans interested in the hole, in the void, in the absence of things, than getting humans interested in plugging the hole, in making up for deficiencies at all costs, in the patch, in covering it up. Void seems unbearable, doesn’t it? My name is Camille & you’re listening to Cosmic Dynamics - 5 minutes of exploration on art, change & the music of the universe. Going deep today, I am looking at what drives our attention, our words, our energy, our interests, activities and finances. What hole out there aren’t we trying to impulsively fill up or hide? what silences aren’t we interrupting? This very soundscape here is desperately trying to plug a hole, and avoid silence. Void is possibility. Hole actually sounds like whole. We all know that Zero is where it all starts. Elevate anything to the zero power and you get... one. But still, emptying feels threatening, contemplating the hole empty feels intimidating.  Here is poem by Richard G. Stern from 1996 “the Hole”: So far from between the stars.        Yet so much further Down here. Look at that old men there…          That Girl in the street So far apart. Life installs distance in us. Too much?          not enough?  Every yes  Every no  So remote. And the circle won’t close.  See that fish on the table, So still in the dish? I know fish are dumbs.          But who knows If somewhere in silence there isn’t a hole Where one can learn fish.

Have you noticed it’s a lot more difficult to get humans interested in the hole, in the void, in the absence of things, than getting humans interested in plugging the hole, in making up for deficiencies at all costs, in the patch, in covering it up?
