From Amazonia to the Water Filter That Was Impossible

It was impossible. He made it happen. During this interview, I had the chance to taste the result of years of immense efforts, advanced research, persistence and patient execution: fresh water. Something we take for granted everyday but that 1 billion people still don’t have access to. 4 billion humans get infected every year and millions die. Talking about solving urgent problems!

Water filters exist, but what Mauricio did is dramatically cut the cost of high-performing filters from 3 digits to just a few euros, crowdsourcing knowledge in the maker movement and keeping everything open source. This doesn’t happen without a bit of cosmic magic.

Mauricio always struck me as someone with a special power. Someone I wanted to know better.

I had to dig into his story! We met in his workshop, plugged in the mics and got talking: he tells us the story of what took him from Peru to Merill Lynch on Wall Street to the corporate world to finally finding his way as a change maker. We unpack what drives him, how success happened and the psychology required to achieve such endeavors. All this punctuated by powerful music tracks.
